How to get Rid of Smoke Smell?
Smoke smells in the kitchen and other rooms can be due to various reasons, namely cooking food, burnt food, a problem in the electrical equipments or due to smoke of cigarettes.
Smoke smell is not just irritating but is also very suffocating. This, in long run can harm the lungs of the inhabitants. It can lead to respiratory disorders especially for children; hence a smoke free environment is essential.
The smoke from kitchen travels to other rooms and also spoils the overall ambience of the house. It also leaves a smell in the draperies and upholstery.
Steps to get rid of the smoke smells in the kitchen:
- The first and foremost way to get a smoke free kitchen is by using a good ventilation system. Having a chimney and an exhaust in the kitchen and using it when smoke is in the kitchen is a good option to keep the kitchen smoke free. When the kitchen is smoke free there will be no smoke smell.
- Aroma candles and other normal candles kill the smoke smells. Incense sticks are also a good option to kill smoke smell however they themselves create more smoke!
- Ozone machines work wonders when it some to encountering smoke problems.
- Smoke smells can be neutralized by open pans of white vinegar kept in the room. Its vapors neutralize the smell.
- Ammonia, neutralizes the smell of smoke if kept overnight in a pan in the kitchen.
- To remove smell in kitchen from fabric and cloth sprinkle it with baking soda. After a few hours dust it off. The smell will disappear from the fabric.
- Repainting the kitchen can remove the smoke in the kitchen; however, that is a very drastic measure. The fresh smell of paint kills all odors. This is the kind of step taken generally, if the smell has been there for too long and hence seeped in.
- Coffee and charcoal left in an open saucer overnight in the kitchen will remove the smoke smell.
- Cooking in the kitchen especially something aromatic removes the smell of smoke and deodorizes the kitchen.
- Boiling lemon in a bowl of water or boiling orange peels in a bowl of water for some time can remove the smell of smoke.
- Leave a piece of vinegar soaked in bread overnight in the kitchen and it can reduce the smoke smell. Basically it a smell neutralizer.
- If the smoke has been there for too long and the smell has stuck on then these methods will not work as they are superficial. Hence, the entire kitchen area has to be scrubbed clean including the worktops and the cabinets etc.
