How to use Color in Decoration?

Color is one of the most important aspects of home decoration. A color in a room can change the feel of the room. Choosing the right color can be a challenge as well as a disaster. Now days it’s not just the color but its finish that can make all the difference. Weather it is gloss, matt or uneven finish- the whole look of a color can change curtsey the kind of finishing that is used.

Painting a room in a particular color can change the mood of the room as each and every color has its own mood. Usually, white and light pastel shades give a feeling of peaceful serenity and are used in meditation rooms. Such light colors, shift focus from the walls and bring it completely on the furniture and interiors. The room can look very bare because of the light wall colors, so the room color has to come from the upholstery, furniture and paintings. Such walls can never be left bare unless large showpieces distract attention from the walls.

The art of using different effects and texturing on walls by mixing two types of paints can also be a part of the décor as it shifts the attention from other areas of the room to the particular wall. Even if this particular area has no wall hanging or furniture, the wall can itself be a treat for the eyes and decoration in itself.

The kind of colors that are used in office spaces are very different from the ones used in the discotheques because of the affect it has on people. In party areas people need to be vibrant, however in offices people need calm concentration. Office is a peaceful and effective place where one can concentrate and work. The dullness of office colors can be attributed to this need for better working conditions and productivity driven colors.

Color in a room must also match or co ordinate with the furniture and upholstery of the room. This will synchronize the room. Clashing colors, even if it is with upholstery looks bad and distracts focus from the beauty of the room.

The color schemes can be co-ordinated in the room in such a way, that the walls look closer than they actually are. Colors can actually play tricks with your eyes. This, in co ordination to the upholstery can give a magnificent touch and change the aesthetics of the room.

The room can look warm, cool or vibrant depending on the choice of colors used. Generally earth tones such as browns are supposed to give a warm look. Colors like blue and sea green are cool colors and red is a vibrant color.

Basically the colors in room weather they are on walls, of upholstery, on floor or of furniture; play a very important role in defining a room and extend a feel to the room. They not only change the mood of the room but also how one feels in the room in presence of a certain color.
