How to Paint House?

Once the house is repaired or renovated the look is completed by painting the house. In this category both exterior and interior paint come into consideration. The furniture and windows are painted too. The paint job can only look good if it is done in a proper fashion. Then only, will it give the desired results and beautify the inner and outer walls.

The main task, when it comes to outer wall painting, is protection from weather and hence protection of the inner walls. Only if the outer walls are well protected, it can be a shield for the inner wall thereby maintaining its longevity. The finish of the outer wall also adds to the overall beauty of the house in the first glance.

How to give that perfect finish on the walls? There is a step by step procedure for the same:

  • Make sure the paint job is done during peak sunshine hours and not the morning or evening hours. During these hours there is humidity in the air and the dampness doesn’t lead to a good finish.
  • Clear the room of all its furniture and electronic items. Make sure the electronic items left in the room are unplugged. Push all the left over furniture to the centre of the room. What ever fixed furniture is in the room should be covered before starting the paint job. If possible, remove all the light fixtures (the coverings minus the bulb/ tube light) or cover them with a plastic wrap.
  • In case there is a wall paper on the walls, one has to begin by removing it first. The wall paper removal includes the removal of adhesive too and after that a drying period of minimum 24 hours is required.
  • Use a sharp plate like scrapper followed by sandpaper to scrape the old paint off the walls. This is basically done to make the walls smooth and to remove flaking or cracking paint.
  • Use putty to fill in the holes and even out the wall surface. After the drying up of putty, sandpaper has to be used to even out the putty with the rest of the wall.
  • One should now begin with primer on the walls.
  • Now dust and clean the room so that the dust does not spoil the finish of the paint job.
  • Start the base coat and paint all the walls, beginning with the ceiling. The paint strokes should be even and vertical to give a smooth finish. The floor should be covered with a thick plastic sheet during the paint process in order to avoid damaging the floor finish. Give it 24 hours to dry up. After the first coat dries up put the subsequent 2-3 coats, as per requirement. Each coat should be given time to dry up properly before putting the next coat.
  • Finish up by using the above procedure to do the paint job on windows too.

And, your dream walls are ready.
